- Food Cravings - Cravings are your body's signal that you are not properly nourished. Satiation is one of the keys to permanent weight loss.
- Low Energy - Medium chain fatty acids provide quick energy, prevent low blood sugar, and support the thyroid gland.
- Anxiety - Since low blood sugar places stress on the adrenal glands, coconut oil is excellent in helping the body make the adrenal hormones necessary to deal with stress. Trans fats from polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats such as canola, cottonseed, soy, and corn inhibit the production of these hormones.
- Chronic Fatigue - Medium chain fatty acids provide energy and fight pathogens in the digestive track that contribute to fatigue.
- Mood Swings & Depression - When blood sugar levels are stabilized and our cells are nourished with saturated fats, depression and mood swings become non-existent.
- Hypoglycemia - Eating healthy, saturated fats with every meal prevent drops in blood sugar.
- Insulin Resistance - Trans fats interfere with insulin receptors in the cells. Replacing these bad fats with healthy coconut oil is the number one step in preventing and reversing diabetes.
- Gallbladder Challenges - Coconut oil is the best fat for anyone suffering from gallbladder ailments because many of the fatty acids in coconut oil do not require bile for digestion.
- Bacterial Infections - Antimicrobial medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil are excellent for fighting bacterial infections.
- Fungal Challenges - Coconut's antifungal properties work wonders in the gut and on the skin and are very effective in the elimination of candida.
- Viral Infections - Medium chain fatty acids help kill pathogenic lipid-coated viruses in the digestive tract.
- Digestive Problems - Antimicrobial and medium chain fatty acids help fight gas producing bacteria and enhance the immune system. Anyone with IBS and Crohn's Disease should be on a daily regimen of coconut oil.
- Liver Support - Saturated fats give the body special amino acids the liver uses to detoxify and provide wonderful support for proper liver function.
- Sagging, Wrinkled Skin - Saturated fats are absolutely essential for avoiding wrinkles. Excess polyunsaturated oils break down cell walls that contributes to wrinkles. Polyunsaturated oils also contain free radicals that damage cells and contribute to aging.
People in countries where coconut oil is an important part of the the diet have lower rates of heart disease and cancer than Americans. A 1996 report by the National Cancer Institute lists Thailand as having the lowest cancer rates for both men and women out of the 50 countries studied. This is why all cancer patients should be on coconut oil. Additionally, coconut oil is currently used in infant formulas and hospital invalid foods because of its special health benefits.
Coconut oil is also used in sports drinks to help athletes produce lean body mass.
Even if you are allergic to coconut, you can still probably take the oil because the allergenic components of coconut are protein compounds found in the meat, not the oil.
Why was coconut oil given a bad name in the past? Experts who promoted the lipid hypothesis point to studies in which feeding coconut oil raised cholesterol levels in animals. However, the coconut oil used in these experiments was fully hydrogenated, meaning fully saturated with hydrogen, which eliminates all of coconut oil's healing properties and essential fatty acids.
For this reason, I recommend only using raw, organic, extra virgin coconut oil extracted by centrifuge, as this creates the purest oil available anywhere.
A special weight loss tip I use with all my clients is to drink your oil. This is a surefire way to escalate your weight loss goals and break free of the above health challenges. By mealtime, coconut's satiation effect will be in full force, so that you won't feel hungry. You may even feel full before finishing your meal, so that you eat less.
A great tip I picked up from Dr. Mary Enig of Eat Fat, Lost Fat is to take your coconut oil as an infusion: place 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil into a mug and add hot water or herbal tea. Allow the oil to melt before drinking.
Use the following formula to determine the amount:
- Body weight: 90-130 lbs., 1 T. before each meal, for a total of 3 T. a day.
- Body weight: 130-180 lbs., 1 1/2 T. before each meal, for a total of 4 1/2 T. a day.
- Body weight: Over 180 lbs., 2 T. before each meal, for a total of 6 T. a day.
